Welthungerhilfe is one of the largest private aid organisations in Germany. It is politically independent and non-denominational. Welthungerhilfe is fighting hunger around the world and is focusing its work around the Sustainable Development Goal 2: “Zero Hunger by 2030”.
Since its establishment in 1962, more than 9,300 overseas projects in 70 countries have been supported with 3.71 billion euros. Welthungerhilfe works on the principle of help to self-help: from fast disaster relief to reconstruction and long-term development cooperation projects with national and international partner organisations. It is important for Welthungerhilfe to actively involve its beneficiaries as much as possible in the projects. The organisation’s actions are guided by the conviction that all people are equal in value, they have inalienable rights, and they should be able to control their own lives.

Welthungerhilfe has a vision of a world in which everyone can lead a self-determined life in dignity and justice, free from hunger and poverty. Hunger is the biggest solvable problem in the world. Welthungerhilfe wants to do all it can to find a lasting solution to this problem. “Zero Hunger wherever we work by 2030“ – this is the clear goal for the organisation with reference to the Sustainable Development Goals defined in its strategy.

We fight against global hunger and for sustainable food security. This includes promoting site-oriented agriculture, access to clean water, environmentally friendly energy supplies and improving health and education.
Helping people to help themselves
Our aim is to improve people’s lives sustainably in the long term. We work using the principle of “help for self-help”. Our actions are guided by the conviction that all people are equal in value, they have inalienable rights, and they should be able to control their own lives.
The people we work with are partners who strive for social change. We treat them with respect, solidarity and empathy. Our actions are intended to improve the prospects of present and future generations, in a healthy environment and a fair society.
